Blues For Sale
Pat Longo Big Band
The Pat Longo Orchestra swings their way through a catchy blues
Altoist Pat Longo has led a big band in the Los Angeles area for quite a few years.
This clip features Pat Longo’s Orchestra in the 1980s during a television appearance, playing the medium-tempo “Blues For Sale.”
George Graham takes a trumpet solo with his plunger mute, sounding like a cross between Snooky Young and Clark Terry.
Tenor-saxophonist Bob Efford and trombonist Nick Lane also get solos, lead trumpeter Frank Szabo hits a few high notes, and there are plenty of infectious ensembles as the band swings its way through a tune that would not be out of place if played by Count Basie.
