This recording was made in New York City by the Duke Ellington Orchestra during 1940 with Duke Ellington, piano and leader; Rex Stewart, Cootie Williams, and willie Jones, trumpets; Otto Hardwick, Harry Carney Johnny Hodges, Barney Bigard, and Ben Webster saxs; Joe Nanton, J. Tizol, and L. Brown, trombones; Fred Guy, guitar; J. Blanton, bass; and Sonny Greer, drums.

This number was composed by Ellington especially to highlight the abilities of his his star trumpeter Cootie Williams.

It would later be transformed into the song “Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me” with the addition of Bob Russell’s lyrics.
