Clyde McCoy and his Orchestra

Trumpeter Clyde McCoy made this recording with his Orchestra in 1937.

Clyde McCoy was a member of the McCoy family of the infamous Hatfield-McCoy feud. He became know for his unique style of muted trumpet playing during the late 1920’s, taking residence at various times in Los Angeles, New York City, and at Chicago’s Drake Hotel, where he first performed “Sugar Blues” in 1930.

He co-founded Down Beat magazine in 1935, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6426 Hollywood Boulevard.
