Bongo Cito

Slim Gaillard

Bongo-rooney!

Singer, pianist, guitarist, percussionist, song writer, and bandleader Slim Gaillard may be the most underestimated musician in jazz.

A comic entertainer, he also had amazing chops – and was one of the first North American musicians to fully embrace Cuban influences.

Here he is with a tune called “Bongo Cito.”

He went through a period where he loved putting the word “bongo” is a title or lyric, but he wasn’t just talk. He had a good feel for the Cuban thing as this recording clearly show.
