The Gasser

Roy Eldridge and his Orchestra

1943 recording

This recording was made in Chicago in 1943 with Roy Eldridge (trumpet), Joe Eldridge and Andrew “Goon” Gardner (alto sax), Ernest “Tom” Archia and Ike Quebec (tenor sax), Rozelle Gayle (piano), Ted Sturgis (bass), and Harold “Doc” West (drums).

Roy Eldridge (aka “Little Jazz”) was a true jazz trumpet innovator of a new sophisticated style deviating from the lyrical approach introduced by Louis Armstrong.
