Beginning as a reed player in Chicago during the early 1920s with Frank Trumbauer and legendary cornetist Bix Beiderbecke, Pee Wee Russell cut his first record with “Red Nichols’ Five Pennies” in 1929.

He moved to New York at the onset of the ’30s where he continued performing with musicians including Edmond Hall, Bobby Hackett, Eddie Condon, Red Allen, Buster Bailey, Bud Freeman, and Gene Krupa.
