Sidney Bechet
Bechet plays on TV broadcast in 1958
New Orleans musician Sidney Bechet began to devolop his distinctive sound at age 6, when he started playing along with his brother’s jazz band.
In his youth Bechet played clarinet for jazz groups in New Orleans, Chicago, New York and London.
While in London he picked up the soprano saxophone, and gained international acclaim for his unique tone, improvisational skills and popular compositions.
