Glenn Miller and his Orchestra

December 18, 1943

Glenn Miller’s AAF Christmas Program was a radio special featuring Glenn Miller and his Orchestra broadcast on December 18, 1943 for those serving in the military during World War II.

In 1942 a patriotic Glenn Miller persuaded the Army to allow him to serve his country as leader a military bandleader. His weekly radio broadcast “I Sustain the Wings” became very popular and led to the formation of his fifty-piece “Army Air Force Band”. Miller was permitted to travel to England with the band in the Summer of 1944 where he gave nearly one-thousand performances and achieved the rank of Captain. His plane disappeared crossing the English Channel on December 15, 1944.
