Improv on Bach
Reinhardt, Grappelli, & South
1937 recording
On this 1937 recording Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli are joined by second violinist Eddie South for an improvised jam on “Concerto in D Minor” by J. S. Bach.
Classically educated violinist Eddie South (known affectionately as the “Black Gypsy”) first left Chicago with his “Alabamians” to tour Europe with piano composer Henry Crowder from 1928 to 1930. On later trips he would have an opportunity to perform and record with Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt.
